The Growing Place provides after school care for children attending the Miami Lakes Elementary School. If your child attends another school and you would like to have him/her attend our after school program, please call the office at (305) 822-4313 for more information.
SCHEDULE: The Growing Place After School Program runs according to the Dade County school calendar. The program begins the first day of the school year and concludes on the last day of school. We are open on Teachers Planning Days. Care during Christmas vacation and Spring break may be provided if counselors are available to work. WHO MAY ENROLL: The program is available to all children grades Kindergarten through Fifth grade. GETTING TO THE GROWING PLACE: Our counselors meet the Kindergarten and First grade children at the Primary Learning Center, take attendance and cross the street with them as a group. Second through Fifth grade meets the counselors by the school office and cross the street as a group. HOURS OF OPERATION: The Growing Place functions until 6:30 pm. We expect all children to be picked up and signed out by that time. We will not leave your children unattended if you have an occasional emergency, but a late charge of $10.00 for each ten minutes will be made. On teacher's work day we are open from 7:00 am until 6:30 pm with an additional charge.
SNACKS: Juice and cookies/crackers are served each day to the children as they arrive at The Growing Place. Friday is special snack day. |
OUR STAFF: Our staff is composed of college students majoring in education, child psychology, social work and personas with special talents and abilities that we have chosen to enrich our program. The counselors are trained, friendly and caring staff who relate well to children; help them with homework and problems. They have all the HRS required trainig and most have CPR and First Aid. ACCIDENTS and BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS: Accidents or behavior problems will be reported to the parent in writing, which the parent must sign. After a child receives 5 behavior reports, a parent will be asked to meet with the Director. Failure to indicate behavior to improve will lead to removal of the child from the program. HOMEWORK: All children will be assisted by their counselor with their homework. The counselors will communicate with parents regarding assignments, problems, successes, etc. ABSENCES: If your child is not on the absentee list from the elemengary school and does not arrive to the after school program, we will call the parents. PLEASE, let us know if your child will not be attending on any particular day. It is often difficult to contact the parents. Return to top SIGN OUT: Signing out is required for each child every day. Sign out books for Kindergarten and First grade will be in the classroom. For Second through Fifth grade, sign out will be in the Fellowship Hall. Only those persons designated in writing by the enrolling parent may sign out the child. Checking of I.D. will be requested. Any changes being made to your child's pick-up list must be done in writing. |
FEES: Fees are to be PREPAID one week before service; if not, a late payment fee will be imposed. A $5.00 late fee will be charged per week. A delinquet account will cancel our services immediately.
