Message from Our Pastor

There's an excitement in the air at MLCC. In the richness of our inter-generation blending of cultures and ways of life, we come together -to be the people of God, to live out our faith commitments, and to be in supportive fellowship with one another.

If you're looking for a church home and for a place to meet God and to sort out the meaning of your faith journey, please feel wanted and welcome at our church in every way.

Catch the spirit,
feel the joy.

“The faith-driven life” November 16, 2008 Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, Matthew 25:14-30

The faith-driven life has heard the Christian story … over and over … to the point where it settles in. It becomes a part of our lives. And we grow up with an ingrained sense of the gospel of Jesus. As Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5, For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died that we might know God more fully. Therefore, encourage one another and build up each other …

“Out of the darkness”
Election 2008:
“that we may all be one”
(John 17:21)

November 9, 2008
Text: Amos 5:18-24, Matthew 25:1-13
There were no losers on Tuesday election night; only a nation of winners and an international community of admirers. This is America at our best. We campaign hard, we go to the polls and vote, and then we move on.

We Americans have a tremendous capacity to imagine and to endure and to pull ourselves up. During the Revolutionary War, when Washington’s men were freezing at Valley Forge, Tom Paine told his fellow Americans: We have it in our power to begin the world over again. And so we do; and this past Tuesday, we tapped into the power
once again.

For out of the darkness, a new day is born. A day when we can imagine, more than ever before, a post-racial America, an America with a new resolve to be redeemed of our awful sin of slavery.

ADVENT SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAM 9:00 a.m. What are we waiting for Christmas? How do we wait? Preparations for the Christmas season begin right after Thanksgiving. Christmas decorations in all shapes, sizes, and colors adorn store shelves just in time for the after-Thanksgiving Day sales rush. Moms and Dads line up for miles outside toy stores, rain or shine, to be the first to buy the hottest new item. By Christmas morning grown ups don’t even want to get out of bed to celebrate the day.

This year instead of preparing our wallets and pocketbooks, let’s prepare our hearts to usher in the Christmas season with our families in a faith-affirming way. First meeting Sunday, November 30th at 9:00am

THE GREEN TIP: FOOD WASTE
by Christina DeProspero
USA is often known for the large portion sizes at restaurants.

What people often forget about is the wasted food that goes along with the large portions!

¬ When eating out, consider buying less. Get a smaller dish, or share a meal with your dinner date.

¬ If you will eat them later, take home the leftovers- it’s great for lunch the next day!

¬ If eating at an all-you-can-eat restaurant, make a conscience effort to put less on each plate and to eat what you’ve chosen.

You’ll see an improvement on your pocket book and your waste line, as well as helping to cut down on the food waste in the USA!

"CENTERING PRAYER" EVENING
PLEASE JOIN US ON THE 1ST AND 3RD FRIDAY OF THE MONTH
Next prayer evening is Nov. 21 at 7:00 pm in
Mariliz Pulka's Office

In Centering Prayer, we place ourselves intentionally before God there to receive grace that we might become more fruitful in our ordinary daily life.  As our sensitivity to the spiritual dimension develops through this daily practice, awareness of God throughout the day will increase.  It is our consent to God to dismantle the false self that we might grow more Christlike.

Centering Prayer groups create an environment of connection, energy and encouragement in the journey of prayer.  Please feel free to participate as your schedule allows.  For more information, please call Marion Olsen, 954-430-3094 or e-mail to marionol@bellsouth.net

Health Kits health kits

Last year, Christian Outreach delivered over 50 Health Kits to Church World Service. These kits  were used for needy immigrants, migrants, and displaced people, mostly in our area. This time, we would like to restart the collection. To assemble one kit, we need: -Toothbrush -Washcloth -Toothpaste  6 oz or larger -Small hand towel -Nail clipper or metal nail file -6 band aids -Bath sized soap (only few needed)      To help, you may purchase any of the items listed above and drop them in the box provided for the project in the fellowship hall. If you rather donate a fully assembled kit, please fill a 1-gallon plastic zipper bag with the items above. Thank you very much for your generosity.
